1931. India-EU Launch ₹391 Crore Joint Research Initiative on Marine Pollution and Green Hydrogen
- On 15 May 2025, the Government of India and the European Commission officially launched two major collaborative research calls under the TTC framework.
- With a joint funding of approximately ₹391 crore (~€41 million), the two coordinated research calls aim to address Marine Plastic Litter (MPL) and Waste to Green Hydrogen (W2GH) through collaborative innovation between Indian and European researchers.
- The calls aim to combat marine pollution and promote waste-to-hydrogen technology. These joint initiatives reflect the growing momentum of India-EU partnership in addressing global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable energy transitions.
1932. 17 Naxal-hit villages in Chhattisgarh get electricity for first time
- On 16 May 2025, Seventeen villages nestled among nearly inaccessible mountains and dense forests in Naxal-hit Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Chhattisgarh have got electricity from the supply grid for the first time
- About 540 families will benefit from the electrification, which has been done at Rs 3 crore under the Mukhyamantri Majratola Vidyutikaran Yojana,
- Under the project, a 25 KVA transformer was installed in Tatekasa. For this purpose, a 45-km-long 11 KV line, 87 low-pressure poles and 17 transformers have been installed, a state-run power company
1933. Mercedes-Benz India, Maharashtra team up to make Samruddhi Expressway zero fatality model
- On 16 May 2025 , The Maharashtra government has partnered with Mercedes-Benz India and the SaveLIFE Foundation to implement an ambitious “Zero Fatality Corridor” (ZFC) project on the 701-km Samruddhi Mahamarg.
- . The goal is to transform the high-speed expressway into a national model for road safety. Launched in March 2024 under Mercedes-Benz India’s CSR initiative, the project aims to reduce accident-related deaths through the “Four Es” of road safety: Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency Care, and Education.
- The initiative is supported by key agencies, including the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the highway police, and the health department, making it a multi-agency effort.

1934. DRDO's New Tech Makes Salty Seawater Drinkable In Good News For Coast Guard, Islanders
- On 16 May 2025, In a major leap toward both national defence and maritime innovation, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has unveiled an innovative water purification membrane, designed specifically for the Indian Coast Guard.
- Developed in just eight months by DRDO’s Kanpur-based Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), the cutting-edge ‘nanoporous multilayered polymeric membrane’ is poised to transform seawater into drinkable freshwater – even under the extreme conditions of the open ocean.
- The indigenous technology is being hailed not only as a strategic asset for maritime defence but also as a potential boon for lakhs of citizens residing along the country’s vast coastline and on remote islands. India pushing toward greater self-reliance under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ initiative, the innovation marks a vital step forward in domestic capability-building. .
1935. Prayagraj Sangam rly station starts digital locker system for passengers
- On 15 May 2025 , After Prayagraj Junction of the Northern Railways (NR), another station in this railway zone, the Prayagraj Sangam railway station, has introduced a 24x7 digital locker system for its passengers.
- According to Station Superintendent, Prayag Junction, Sanjay Kumar, where 20 such lockers are already being used by passengers, the system allows users to scan a QR code, register via mobile, choose a locker and duration, pay online and set a passcode, all through a mobile interface.
- The modern facility eliminates long queues and the risk of theft, letting tourists explore the city worry-free, all with the nominal fee of Rs 20 per hour," said SS, Prayag. This self-service amenity is expected to be expanded to other stations based on demand and usability, marking a step forward in smart station services,
1936. India to Upgrade 30,000 Km Highways with Rs 10 Trillion Plan
- On 15 May , 2025 The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced plans to convert twenty-five thousand to thirty thousand kilometres of two-lane highways into four-lane roads. With a proposed investment of Rs 10 trillion, the project is expected to enhance logistics, reduce travel time, and support long-term economic growth.
- The plan aims to complete road projects worth Rs five to six trillion annually, contributing to a seamless transportation corridor for trade and mobility. To fund the expansion, the government will adopt the Infrastructure Investment Trust model, pooling capital from domestic investors.
- Projects will be executed under multiple models: Build–Operate–Transfer, BOT (Annuity), Engineering, Procurement and Construction, and Hybrid Annuity. Under the revised BOT (Annuity) model, the government will collect tolls for up to fifteen years, compensating concessionaires on an annuity basis.

1937. ISRO's Aditya-L1 captures solar flare and plasma ejection, monitoring solar activity in near-ultraviolet light
- On 14 May 2025, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has recently made an historic discovery from its Aditya-L1 mission, which was launched to monitor the Sun. ISRO posted a video shot by the mission showing a solar flare and historic plasma ejection from the Sun.
- The discovery brings a much enhanced scale of data concerning solar activity, which will have bearing on predicting space weather events that influence Earth.
- ISRO's Aditya-L1 mission has added one more value to solar studies with its latest capture of a solar flare and plasma ejection. The milestone provides an unprecedented glimpse into the Sun's turbulent nature in near-ultraviolet light and provides new avenues for research on solar phenomena.
1938. DRDO develops high-pressure polymeric membrane for sea water desalination
- On 15 May , 2025 Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) announced that it has successfully developed indigenous nanoporous multilayered polymeric membrane for high-pressure sea water desalination.
- Defence Materials Stores and Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), the Kanpur-based laboratory of DRDO, developed the technology for desalination plant in Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ships, based on their operational requirement to address the serious challenge of stability when exposed to chloride ions in saline water.
- The initial safety and performance trials of the polymeric membranes were found to be fully satisfactory. The final operational clearance will be given by ICG after 500 hrs of operational testing,

1940. Big Boost For Electronics, India Gets New Semiconductor Unit In UP
- On 14 May, 2025. it was reported that, In a significant development aimed at strengthening India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister of India, had approved the establishment of a new semiconductor fabrication facility in Uttar Pradesh.
- This new plant is a joint venture between Indian IT giant HCL and global electronics maker Foxconn. Both companies will work together to set up the unit with a total investment of Rs 3,700 crore.
- The new plant will manufacture display driver chips used in various screen-based devices and is expected to process 20,000 wafers and produce around 36 million chips each month.
